The Spring Fashion Show, entitled “Freedom of Expression,” featured, for the first time, garments created entirely by fashion design students. The Show has been an annual Fisher event for more than 50 years.

College 101 Celebrates Its Third Year

Boston’s youth with its innovative college entrance program College 101. College 101 demystifies the higher education experience – and prepares students to succeed when they arrive at colleges and universities. A $10,000 grant from the Citizens Bank Foundation supported

22 students from four Boston public high schools who took Introduction to Business or Introduction to Communications. Five College 101 graduates will matriculate at Fisher this Fall as members of the Class of 2013. The intention is to export the College 101 model to several higher education institutions in order to reach hundreds of rising seniors throughout Boston.
The first Fisher Alumni Panel focused on jobs in the health care field. Featured panelists included: Grace Beason ’04 is the Regional Director of Privacy & Security at EDS; Lisa Francis ’05 is the Team Leader of the Financial Access Unit of Admitting & Registration Services at the Massachusetts General Hospital; Rebecca Kibazo-Gasque ’08 is the Medical Staff Credentialing Coordinator at Lahey Clinic; and Claudia Tessier ’64 is the President and Founder
of mHealth Initiative. The discussion, moderated by Heather Gariepy, Director of Career Services, revealed each panelist’s belief that finding a mentor was the most rewarding experience of their professional lives. Future Alumni Panels will concentrate on leadership, management, and other themes.

The Boston Business Journal featured President McGovern prominently in several stories. In “Colleges strive to hold line on tuition,” President McGovern spoke about Fisher’s keen interest in maintaining access.
“Revenue chase sends colleges to Web” offered President McGovern a chance to discuss the College’s success with Fisher Online. Fisher was among the first

institutions in the country to develop an exclusively on-line program. The Boston Globe, in an article entitled “Worried workers race to retool: Adults head to school in droves, fretting over layoffs, a lack of skills,” noted that Fisher has “seen enrollment in its health information technology program swell 16 percent and its criminal justice program 21 percent over last year.”

Fisher on the Hill: Students Lobby State House
Taking their message of expanding state and federal support for financial aid
programs to the State House, Fisher students visited Beacon Hill on Financial Aid Day. 96% of Fisher students receive some form of state and federal financial aid. Students handed boxes of cookies to their hometown representatives. The Student Government Association organized the trip in collaboration with the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM), which hosted the event. Fisher was among the best-represented institutions.
